چکیده

Colorectal surgery can be difficult at open and laparoscopic surgery. This is particularly the case for rectal surgery deep in the pelvis. In obese males distal rectal dissection can be challenging because of instrument and visual limitations. Robot-assisted laparoscopic colorectal operations do not differ significantly from the standard laparoscopic approach but it has certainly been shown that it is feasible to perform the same operation using robotic assistance for the dissection. This allows the surgeon to benefit from vastly enhanced vision and dexterity, which may ultimately translate into benefit for the patient in terms of reduced operating time, and better preservation of pelvic nerves and other structures.

Comparison of robotically performed and traditional laparoscopic colorectal surgery.

INTRODUCTION Robotic laparoscopic surgery is postulated to result in better surgical results by allowing improved instrument manipulation and three-dimensional vision. The authors' experience performing robot-assisted laparoscopic colorectal surgery is reported. METHOD Standard laparoscopic procedures with robot-assisted laparoscopic colon mobilization and vascular ligation were performed. Da...

Robotic Assisted Laparoscopic Surgery: A Review of its Application and Impact on Pelvic Colorectal Surgery

Laparoscopy was a major technical advance for colorectal surgery, with great clinical and financial benefits compared to open surgery for both benign and malignant colorectal diseases. Despite proven clinical advantages, the rate of laparoscopy for pelvic colorectal surgery remains low. The technical advantages of robotic assisted laparoscopic surgery may help overcome the limitations of other ...

Robot-Assisted Versus Standard Laparoscopic Colorectal Surgery

BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVES Over the years, there has been a continual shift toward more minimally invasive surgical techniques, such as the use of laparoscopy in colorectal surgery. Recently, there has been increasing adoption of robotic technology. Our study aims to compare and contrast robot-assisted and laparoscopic approaches to colorectal operations. METHODS Forty patients undergoing lapa...

Robot-assisted rectal surgery for malignancy: a review of current literature.

Laparoscopic colorectal surgery is rapidly gaining acceptance for the management of colorectal cancer. However, laparoscopic colorectal surgery is technically more challenging than conventional surgery. This challenge is more profound for laparoscopic rectal cancer, where there is a need to perform a total mesorectal excision (TME), in the confines of the pelvis, with the limitations of the lap...
